Country Economic Policy Assessment
In 2004, USAID's Office of Economic Growth (EGAT/EG ) initiated a new Task Order under SEGIR MACRO I to provide country economic performance assessments to field missions and regional bureaus to synthesize relevant information from a variety of different sources in one summary document. These reports use a standard template and cover a broad range of topics related to economic growth, providing data for approximately 100 indicators that cover trends in these areas. These indicators include those that have wide currency in the Agency's Economic Growth field. Examples include the World Bank's "Doing Business" indicators and some indicators used by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for measuring performance. For benchmarking purposes, comparisons are made to a global dataset, similar groups of countries, and particular countries which EGAT or field missions are interested to have the country's performance measured against.
For the period September 2004 through June 2006, field missions and bureaus used these reports to prioritize sectors/areas of focus in their economic growth strategies, to establish baseline performance of their country's economy to assess progress over time, and for use in discussing areas of needed interventions with host-country counterparts and other donors.
This new task order will continue to provide economic assessment reports using the existing template developed under Macro I.
