Certificate Course in Evaluation

The Certificate Evaluation Course builds the capacity (skills and knowledge) of Agency staff and partners to plan for, participate in, and supervise the implementation and use of evaluations to review the progress and impact of USAID activities. This course in project and program evaluation links the evaluation function to the design, implementation, and monitoring functions in the project cycle. The course is based on a practical, hands-on application of the concepts and theory covered in the classroom to a student practicum (e.g. a field evaluation).

The course has four main objectives:

  • To increase the participant's understanding of the utility of evaluations as part of ongoing project and program management implementation;
  • To understand the interrelationship of performance monitoring and evaluation;
  • To teach skills on how to design, implement, write and determine the quality of an evaluation study;
  • To examine the factors that help ensure that the results of evaluations contribute to organizational learning - improved program design and policy formulation.
