Organizational Development & Training

MSI's goal is to help programs and organizations better serve the public by becoming more productive, accountable, results oriented and creative. We involve clients from day one in assessing their own problems and devising their own solutions. We do not view training as just another area of specialization. Rather, we approach training as a tool to bring about specific organizational and behavioral change. It is our policy to conduct training only in those substantive areas where we also maintain an active consulting practice. By ensuring that our staff and associates combine technical abilities as trainers with practical operational experience, we feel we are able to bring balance and credibility to each assignment.

MSI training events have a distinctive "signature." In order to improve their relevance and impact, our training typically includes the following:

  • Integrating hands-on activities and structured follow-up, thereby accelerating the learning process through direct application;
  • Combining training with other management interventions - needs assessment, strategic planning, process reengineering, action planning or information systems design - in order to incorporate training into a broader context of performance improvement;
  • Working with "in-tact groups," thus encouraging more effective teamwork and direct application of learning; and
  • Use of distance learning and state-of-the-art instructional technologies to extend the learning environment and training beyond traditional face-to-face settings.

To help structure this process, MSI makes use of a distinctive organizational assessment and improvement strategy and set of tools to help organizations clarify their goals and strategically manage the process of achieving them. Our management consulting and organizational development includes robust strategic management procedures for managing policy implementation and scaling up successful pilot projects; streamlined program and project management systems; and team-based solutions to complex problems. We have applied these methods to the operations of government agencies and non-governmental organizations across the United States and in 45 other nations.
