Media
MSI’s media and outreach programs across the globe function to promote awareness among citizens and increase media effectiveness. Our project activities have included improving management and economic viability of media sectors; improving the enabling environment for viable media networks; strengthening the organizational capacity of local media; increasing public awareness of key issues through media improvements; and using community radio more effectively. We have also worked directly with governments to improve their skills in dealing with the media and thereby enhancing transparency.
Under various projects, we have:
- Produced a number of innovative films, publications, informational leaflets, TV shows and radio programs, often with the goal of disseminating information about rights and law to the greater public;
- Supported Freedom of Information efforts;
- Supported local media initiatives through grant funds;
- Utilized graduate internships and communications courses to increase media effectiveness; and
- Commissioned and delivered an eight-module Communication Course, designed to provide Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) with theoretical and practical tools and techniques necessary to develop and effectively implement communication strategies for advocacy, image building and public education using the media.
Project teams have worked with key media institutions and civil society organizations to develop effective communication strategies in various countries including Egypt, Colombia, Afghanistan and Jamaica.
