Paving the Road to Tolerance in Indonesia

Play Video

In Indonesia, with support from the USAID-funded Harmoni project, the Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten Sragen (Sragen District Education Office) developed a locally based and designed tolerance teaching curriculum for district junior high schools. Originally planned to be rolled out in 40 pilot schools, the results were so positive that the program was expanded to all 89 district junior high schools.

Over the course of the project, 706 teachers were trained, and 32,734 students and 1,990 teachers were reached. Further, the Education Office issued a decree to include funding to train teachers on the curriculum in their budget. The Office is also planning to develop a similar curriculum for district primary schools.

This is one of Harmoni’s many initiatives to promote tolerance and diversity in Indonesian society. Learn more about the project here.
