The USAID-funded Jamaica Community Empowerment and Transformation Project (COMET I) worked closely with the Jamaican Constabulary Force (JCF), representatives from the Jamaican government, and local and international NGOs, to reduce crime and violence and strengthen economic competitiveness in the country’s inner cities.
The follow-on project, COMET II, was implemented by Tetra Tech, MSI’s parent company. It strengthened civil society organizations to become managers and leaders in their communities to increase citizen participation, cooperation and accountability.
This documentary excerpt highlights the successful mainstreaming of community policing that built trust and respect between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Parade Gardens exemplifies how even in communities most affected by violence, police, business, and youth leaders can work together to reduce crime and promote safety.
